Projects and Studies
Support for the development of environmental policies
(1)Investigation of environmental emissions and fate of hazardous chemicals
- The quantitative estimation of environmental emissions and fate of hazardous chemicals is accomplished by gathering data from survey and questionnaires (in case of data scarcity) and a wide range of statistical data (production, use, waste disposal practices, etc.).
- Data reliability is continuously analyzed in order to produce robust results. In this sense, data quality always influences our choice of an estimation method for environmental emissions.
(2)Quantitative analysis for the framework of environmental regulation and emission standards
- Regarding the study for the fixation of an environmental emission standard or the range of application of a particular regulation, quantitative data is always used in order to produce effective and authoritative policy advice.
- In case the necessary data is not readily available, comprehensive methods for data estimation and processing are proposed (simulations, experiments, hearings and questionnaires).
(3)Evaluation of cost and benefit of environmental technologies and their potential expansion
- Cost-benefit analysis of a particular new environmental policy is fundamental to evaluate the ability of various companies to comply with new regulations. In this context, the cost of environmental technologies is taken into account so as to produce objective and authoritative evaluations.
- Dispersed data is collected systematically in order to meet the objective of choosing the best evaluation index for a particular technology.
(4)Analysis of environmental law enactments and improvement suggestions
- Through discussion with various stakeholders and upon identification of a particular issue or problem with a regulation, we try to develop policy improvement suggestions by building a platform of information exchange between regulators and related parties.
- The consensus is multifacetedly investigated and reported according to official proceedings.
Environmental data collection and analysis
(1)Environmental data collection and analysis
- Data is collected, processed and interpreted in an effective way so as to satisfy the objective of a specific analysis (effects of the introduction of a particular technology, consequences of a policy revision, etc.).
- Data from international organizations as well as Japanese and overseas government agencies are collected and processed in order to keep track of policy trends and international needs.
(2)Collection of data related to environmental technologies
- Data regarding environmental technologies is effectively summarized, classified and evaluated so as to serve different needs when decision-making is involved. Our summaries may take various forms in order to meet our clients’ needs.
- Data related to installation cost and running cost of environmental technologies is generally difficult to obtain. We give advice on effective ways to obtain this type of data by creating incentives to companies to provide more detailed information.
(3)Collection of data related to national and international environmental policies and regulations
- We effectively collect data from international organizations, national and international governmental and research agencies, select and evaluate the most appropriate content and format that meets meet our clients’ objectives.
- In case clarification is necessary, we contact the concerning agency or body, organize hearings and request additional information. In this way, we give advice on the most effective methods to gather the necessary data.
(4)Construction on integrated environmental databases
- User-friendly databases are built by integrating data of chemicals toxicity, environmental emissions, environmental fate, etc.
- We strive to build “databases for general purpose” so that various stakeholders can make effective use of our data according to their objectives.
(5)Construction of environmental databases with Geographic Information System (GIS) interface
- Environmental pollution and chemicals dispersion maps (based on location of industries and other emitters) are built and integrated with downloadable and data analysis features.
- We try to build maps with easy visualization and user-friendly features.
Other activities
(1)Participation in examination committee meetings※, lectures and seminars
- Assignment of our team members to lecture about themes related to our fields of research and study.
- Assignment of our team members for the participation in examination committee meetings held by government- and non-government related organization.
※Basically, these meetings consist of a panel of specialists that discuss and analyze a certain environmental questions and propose mechanisms for policy reform and improvement).
(2)Technical cooperation for the introduction of environmental technologies in Japan and overseas
- Development and management of projects in Japan and overseas related to environmental policy status and environmental education.
(3)Renewable energy project
- We contribute to the reduction of environmental impact with the generation of electricity using solar panels in various locations in Japan.
(4)Other activities
- Writing of technical papers and newspaper articles related to our field of research and study.
